Dynegy Midwest Generation operates two Siemens Westinghouse 501 FD gas turbine units at its Pennsylvania cogeneration facility. In an effort to optimize equipment reliability, the company approached ExxonMobil engineers for a lubricant solution capable of enhancing component protection and prolonging performance lifespan.

Formulated with premium hydrotreated base stocks and a proprietary additive system, Mobil DTE™ 832 provides exceptional thermal and oxidative stability for severe service applications. Further, to meet the significant load-carrying requirements of geared turbines, the lubricant is engineered with an advanced anti-wear system.
Since implementing Mobil DTE™ 832 turbine oil 11 years ago, Dynegy has recorded a number of performance achievements. After more than 48,000 hours in-service, there have been no system trips or unscheduled outages related to lubricant condition. During a scheduled shutdown, maintenance personnel and ExxonMobil engineers inspected the unit and confirmed that journal bearings have remained clean, while thrust bearings have avoided varnish buildup. Through extended oil life and increased equipment reliability, Dynegy has generated a company-estimated annual savings of $100,000 in improved production availability and reduced labor expenses.
