Waukesha H24GL gas engine
Oil and gas producer
A Canadian oil and gas producer operates a fleet of 40 Waukesha H24GL natural gas engines. Using a conventional natural gas engine oil, the gas engines experienced ash deposits that compromised component life in valves, cylinder head decks and pistons while operating in extreme conditions. In an effort to improve equipment reliability, the company approached ExxonMobil to identify a long-lasting lubricant solution capable of providing improved wear protection.
ExxonMobil engineers recommended the company switch to Mobil Pegasus™ 1 natural gas engine oil in its natural gas engines. Formulated from wax-free synthetic base oils and a balanced additive system, Mobil Pegasus 1 oil is designed to improve engine and oil life. In addition, ExxonMobil engineers recommended implementing routine Mobil Serv℠ Lubricant Analysis to monitor equipment and oil condition.
After transitioning to Mobil Pegasus 1 natural gas engine oil, the company tripled oil drain intervals of its engines from 2,000 hours to more than 6,000 hours and reduced the need for makeup oil from five liters to between 0.5-1 liter. The company reports that the extended oil life and reduced wear have generated a company-estimated savings of US $180K.
